Club Sections
Something for everyone
Maldon Golf Club caters for the full range of golfers from beginners to scratch handicappers, Men, Ladies and Juniors.
Men's Section
The men’s section has over 200 members. Competitions take place primarily on Sunday mornings, although some are held over three-day weekends. Monthly medals and stablefords are on Friday and Saturday. On average between 40-70 men enter the competitions, especially the popular Ben Volta Winter League which runs from November to March. All board competitions have Sunday a.m. shotgun starts which ensure all players can gather together immediately afterwards for Trophy Presentations.
The main events of the year include the 'Captains Drive-In' usually held in early spring, the Guest Day in June and primarily the 'Captains Day' in mid-summer. The Club Captain will also host events in aid of his chosen charity throughout the year.
The men’s section currently runs five representative teams: Leslie F Wood, Norman Plum, Essex Seniors, John Day and Jubilee Cup.
The men also play friendlies against other Essex clubs with matches home and away. These are always competitive contests with the emphasis on friendship and can be closely contested events, sometimes with a trophy at stake.
Ladies Section
The Ladies section offers weekly competitions on Tuesday mornings for both 9- and 18-hole players, as well as the opportunity to play casual golf in a beautiful setting. The ladies play for cups and trophies and occasionally have fun competitions. Monthly medals are on a held on a Tuesday. After play the ladies have lunch with the social members which is very enjoyable.
The ladies also have a Spring Meeting, Autumn Meeting, Away Day, Guest Day, Friendlies, Past and Present Captains' dinner and a Christmas lunch.
A Coffee Morning is held in support of the Ladies charity and this is also supported during the year with raffles.
During the winter there is bridge open to all, monthly on a Monday afternoon with prizes and raffle.
We are a small but friendly group, and very supportive of ladies who are returning to golf or who would like to take up this enjoyable game.
Senior’s Section
The Senior’s Section enables members who have reached the qualifying age of 55 to enjoy both friendly and competitive golf during the week as well as playing club competitions at weekends. We maintain the tradition set by past members and many competition trophies bear their names.
The Seniors meet at 0800 hours with Wednesday being the official day when competitions and the majority of home friendly matches are scheduled. These matches are played from March to October.
A good number of Seniors also play on a Monday and Friday.
For members there are specific seniors’ competitions, some main club competitions and medal and stableford qualifying events available. The diary also includes an annual Guest Day at the Club.
We continue to flourish and always welcome new members. We offer the opportunity to participate in interclub matches, both at home and away, involving Ballards Gore, Burnham, Clacton, Colne Valley, The Essex, The Warren, Forrester Park and Harwich.
All members are eligible to play in these friendly matches providing they have an active handicap.
